Invest in your relationship with yourself

We have all experienced trauma of one kind or another throughout our lives. Trauma is often the result of an overwhelming amount of stress that exceeds one's ability to cope, or integrate the emotions involved with that experience. Sometimes we can become stuck in the experience of the trauma and feel trapped or frozen in the present. Symptoms of unresolved trauma vary greatly. At the very core of our experiences, we are challenged by our ability to love ourselves in light of the traumatic event. When we find it difficult to love ourselves, we can become overly-critical of ourselves and find fault with others and the world around us. In some cases, unresolved trauma can present as PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), depression and/or addiction.

Art Therapy, especially when combined with embodiment and mindfulness practices such as Yoga and Meditation, can help connect us with our creative potential in a gentle and non-judgemental way, enabling us to articulate more clearly and come to terms with that which is challenging us.

Improve your relationship with others

As we invest time in articulating and coming to terms with our experiences, a softening may occur where we also learn to grow in compassion for ourselves within the context of our own journeys. As we progress along the lifelong journey of learning to love ourselves, we can experience a complimentary softening towards the external world and the people we meet there.

Find holding in the natural world

The natural world can provide a wonderfully fertile environment for our healing processes. Our relationship with our environment and the world around us can serve as a powerful metaphor for our relationship with ourselves. Art and Eco-Art Therapy are evidence-based clinical and psychotherapeutic interventions which employ art and/or nature as a means to explore, understand and communicate complex issues and experiences.

The goal of art therapy is to utilise the creative process to help people explore self-expression and, in doing so, find new ways to gain personal insight and develop new coping skills.
